Warm wishes for happy holidays, whatever you celebrate, from all of us at Stamp NC Blue. Thank you for supporting our work to inform and educate voters and elect candidates who reflect progressive values, we couldn't do it without YOU! Special year-end thanks to our amazing blog team: Kate Capehart, Eunice Chang, Michelle Craig, Michele Sanger, and me, Patti Rieser. We'll be back on January 5, look for us then!
Update December 27: Just when you think things will be quiet for a week or so... A federal judge announced an intention to block NC's voter photo ID requirement at least for the March 2020 primary and perhaps for the November election. This story will unfold over the next week and impact the messaging for our (already printed) GOTV postcards for the March primary. If you're signed up as a postcard captain or writer, know that we're tracking this and connecting with other GOTV groups to provide consistent messaging. We need to be patient until the details and ramifications of this decision are clear - we'll keep you posted! NC Policy Watch, WRAL.
Wow, what a year. We're in the process of impeachment, trial, and perhaps removal (hey, I can dream!) of a thoroughly corrupt, self-serving, incompetent fraud of a president. We fought for and won improved state and congressional district maps (though there's more to fight for there). Our state Democratic legislators have hung tough on their support of Gov Cooper's budget veto, public education funding, and Medicaid expansion. I can't even begin to recap 2019, check out these:

We can take time over the holidays to celebrate our progress and each other as we prepare for the challenges of 2020. The NC General Assembly (NCGA) comes back into session on January 14 - and who knows what the Republican leadership will try to do with their last gasp of majority in both chambers. There's the March 3 Super Tuesday Primary and then the 2020 general election WHEN WE WILL FLIP THE NCGA, ELECT FAIR JUDGES, KEEP GOV COOPER & ATTORNEY GENERAL STEIN IN OFFICE, BOOT SENATOR TILLIS, SEND MORE DEMOCRATS TO CONGRESS, AND PUT A DEMOCRAT IN THE WHITE HOUSE!
Here's an idea if you'd like to let your NCGA representative and senator know how you feel about what they did this year: download the naughty or nice images created by Eunice and tweet or email them with your personal message!
Sample "nice" message: Thank you for standing up for equality and justice (or the environment, progressive values - your issues) in NC, Sen/Rep ABC. Happy new year from a happy constituent!
Sample "naughty" message: Santa's got lumps of coal for your stocking this year, Sen/Rep ABC. This constituent hopes you will do a better job representing my progressive values in 2020. That will help make it a happy new year for all of us!"
Amid the hubub and turmoil of the year's end, it's important to make time for quiet reflection. In that spirit...
Look at our brokenness.
We know that in all creation
Only the human family
Has strayed from the Sacred Way.
We know that we are the ones
Who are divided
And we are the ones
Who must come back together
To walk in the Sacred Way.
Teach us love, compassion, and honor
That we may heal the earth
And heal each other.
