Early voting has started and ends on Nov 3. Find your county's early voting sites and schedules. People can register to vote during early voting, but not on Election Day, Nov 6. Use the link to find out what you need to take with you to register. NO PHOTO ID IS NEEDED TO VOTE! Take your family, friends, co-workers - make it a poll party, post a picture with your "I Voted" sticker.

Some ballots this November will include school board races. In North Carolina, an increasing number of school board elections are partisan, with 35 school boards being elected on a partisan basis this year. If your county holds non-partisan school board elections, you elected new school board members in May. Find out if there's a November school board election in your county by going to Vote411, entering your address, then clicking "on your ballot" and following prompts. If there is, you'll see links to candidate's campaign websites and their answers to several relevant questions.

The school board has a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Personnel - the hiring and firing of the superintendent and the approval of teacher contracts
  • Budgetary - setting the budget for the year
  • Real estate - determining where schools should be opened or closed
  • Visionary - setting the overall goals and vision for a school district
