Lots of news for a Friday, things are heating up in Raleigh:

  • The NC Senate voted to approve a controversial bill that would potentially clear town-run charters in several Charlotte suburbs - and have implications for the rest of the state. Read more here. Final vote (House has already approved it) is expected on Monday. Let your NCGA senator know how you feel, copy or call Sen. Berger, as well.
  • A bill moving quickly to approval would change how Mecklenburg judges are elected; how it will affect voters.
  • Judicial redistricting is on a committee agenda for Monday, after rumors it could be postponed. Rep. Burr, a driver behind this effort, was defeated in his primary, so will be leaving the NC House.
  • Updates on other bills being considered: WRAL.
  • Some Republicans object to the way their leadership handled the budget process.

Budget details continue to emerge:

Representative David Lewis has confirmed that constitutional amendments will be offered during the current session. Details have not been confirmed, but are speculated to include voter ID. Capping the state income tax and protecting our right to hunt and fish have also been rumored. We have to wait and see.
